Mindful shopping, mindful living

Updated: Apr 1

Center your meals around organic (foods that are grown without chemicals and are not treated with them). Fresh Organic produce will have a small tag on them that starts with the number 9. ie; 9032). Organic foods can also found in bags, boxes, jars and in the frozen section.

In addition to natural vitamins and minerals, found in fruits and vegetables, they also provide, the much needed fiber that we need in our daily diets. Fiber acts as a cleansing broom for our colon and helps to absorb toxins and fats. Whether eaten in fruits and vegetables or taken in supplement form with a meal, fiber can also help to balance blood sugar, due to its layering effect throughout the ingested foods. Fiber is also considered a "Prebiotic" as is it a food source for the Good bacteria/flora to feed on.

Fiber as it is mixed with food, helps to prevent glucose sugars from entering the blood stream too fast. For diabetics, this help with better blood sugar regulation and balance. Did I mention the part about how fiber helps with weight loss by making us feel fuller and its ability to absorb fats? And the wonderful bowel eliminations that come along with consuming fiber will have you singing in the shower. Oh what a wonderful way to start our day!

When shopping in the groceries stores, the most essential and healthier items are placed on the outer walls of the store: Produce (fruits and vegetables), dairy, meats, fish and bread. Remember to read all ingredients. Food ingredients will definitely be discussed in future posts.
